Effect of Pylon Wake with and Without Pylon Blowing on Propeller Thrust

    Get PDF
Pylon trailing edge blowing was investigated as a means of alleviating the effects of the pylon wake on a pusher arrangement of an advanced single-rotation turboprop. Measurements were made of steady-state propeller thrust and pylon wake pressures and turbulence levels with and without blowing. Results show that the pylon trailing edge blowing practically eliminated the pylon wake, significantly reduced the pylon wake turbulence, and had a relatively small effect on the steady-state propeller thrust. The data are presented with a minimum of analysis

    Transactions Subject to Gift Tax

    Get PDF
The gift tax is imposed on the transfer of property by gift. The term gift is not expressly defined either in the Code or in the Treasury Regulations. However, section 2512(b), dealing with the valuation of gifts, states that where property is transferred for less than an adequate and full consideration in money or money\u27s worth, the difference between the value of the property transferred and the consideration received constitutes a gift. Thus, for gift tax purposes, the determination of whether a gift was made does not turn so much on the intent of the transferor as it does on the mechanics of the transfer whether property was transferred without full and adequate consideration in money and money\u27s worth. The absence of donative intent still can be a significant factor

The economy and efficiency of a milking machine

Industry has progressed considerably in substituting mechanical appliances for hand labor, thereby vastly reducing unit production costs. In more recent years agriculture has been making wider uses of mechanical equipment with the result that production has been increased, altho the proportion of agricultural laborers has markedly declined. Kinsman1 states that within the last 75 years a man\u27s ability as a field worker on the farm has been trebled. As the future of agriculture is studied it seems likely that the greatest opportunity for reducing production costs is to increase the output per man thru mechanical equipment. It is with a hope of lessening labor costs that mechanical milkers are now being installed on numerous dairy farms

Semileptonic Hyperon Decays and CKM Unitarity

Using a technique that is not subject to first-order SU(3) symmetry breaking effects, we determine the VusV_{us} element of the CKM matrix from data on semileptonic hyperon decays. We obtain VusV_{us} =0.2250(27). This value is of similar precision to the one derived from Kl3K_{l3}, but higher and in better agreement with the unitarity requirement, Vud2+Vus2+Vub2=1|V_{ud}|^2+|V_{us}|^2+|V_{ub}|^2=1.Comment: 3 pages, 1 tabl
